Lisa Rothstein, the Queen of Pickleball Cartoons

Lisa Rothstein doesn’t claim to be the best pickleball player in the world, but few enjoy the spirit of the game more than she does.  Lisa’s work has appeared in The New Yorker Magazine and books like How to Survive Your Freshman Year. Lisa had a long career in creative departments at leading ad agencies….she can tell you, you have to learn to laugh sometimes!

Pickleball is all about putting smiles on faces — and Lisa is one of the best at it.  Her “gags” — as she calls them — usually center on one key universa; element we can all relate with. Her cartoons run throughout Dan Janal’s book “Pickleball, The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Fun, Friends, and Strategies.

Lisa shares an experience: “I was on the sideline, with an opportunity to overhear another player’s lesson. The instructor made a suggestion on a kind of shot I had been working on for months, but something in how that instructor spoke in that moment really clicked! I got it! The best gags have that same effect — you recognize yourself and can see yourself in it.

If you have a pickleball moment that you think could make a great “gag” — a cartoon — let us know! We’ll work with Lisa to pick the best of the best and award winners with copies of Dan Janal’s book, as well as $50 gift certificates for future pickleball purchases.

Lisa Rothstein has a great Etsy shop where you can find more of her great humor, on a variety of merchandise.  Go to: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Rothtoons
